Exactly What Do You Mean By Page Speed & Why It Matters
Hey i love chicken stuff and when i order my chicken items from KFC and they deliver it in no time. Do you know why? Simple they know my house and they know that i’m regular customer of KFC. What would happen if they don’t know my house and a new customer to them, simple it take longer time to get delivered isn’t it. And next time i would be looking for other restaurant who delivers it at faster time. Speed clearly plays an important role in my life role and even in your role as well as it’s even more important role to play in the digital user experience.
Does Page Speed Really Matters?
Given my web design & development background and very obsessed with the great user experience & usability. Page Speed is a critical component in the digital user experience, and it is hugely important in our content-driven world. There’s a reason why Google Analytics now includes statistics like Page Load Time, Lookup, and Page Size.
But you might be thinking, “Does Page Speed really matter? Can it make that big of a difference? Do I really need to make it a priority?” My answer is Yes! Yes! And Yes! In fact, Page Speed matters more today than ever before.
What is Page Speed?
Page Speed terms clearly refers to the speed with which web pages is downloaded from the web hosting servers and displayed right on to your web browsers. In simple calculation terms i can it’s the actual time duration that it takes from clicking the link and displaying the entire web page content from the web page that you requested for in your browser.
The performance of website makes a lot of difference and impacts a lot in search engine rankings which is keenly developed under the proprietary and undisclosed search engine algorithms. So you need to adopt the key principle methods in maximizing your website performance and focusing on page speed optimization from the ground up.
Why Page Speed matters the most and to Google?
As we all know how the slow loading page speed really frustrates the most and it impacts to your business and potentially it could loose your customers away from you. Even it also doesn’t score any points for page ranking on the top search engine. Your website speed is one of the key ways Google measures you and ranks you. If your site is slow, you get penalized. One thing many business owners don’t think about is the way their site performs, as in how long a user has to wait for a page to load.
What You Need To Improve Your Page Speed
The possibly the best thing you could to improve your page speed is to adopt Google’s Page Speed tool delivers more than scores and insights itself. With this tool you can easily find out on what you need to change to improve your score & performance. You get a report with line-by-line instructions on what to do. Given the specifics provided, there really is no excuse not to improve your Page Speed score.
Page speed performance can make or break your business, conversions and lead to higher bounce rate. Believe me that no one loves the slow loading & non-performing websites including Google too. Slow loading page will force the user to close the browser in the mid-way and moving to your competitors website.
Enhancing The Server’s Page Speed
When you visit a site or click any link and the server receives your request and in the order it must do some processing before it can deliver your request and there is a pretty good amount of room available to improve a lot including Compressing the responses, getting a faster server, reducing redirects, better usage of caching and writing a even better code.
Compressing The Response
In order to do this you need to compress your HTML, CSS & JS files as it can reduce the page load time by reducing the amount of packets the server needs to send. Possible the best way to compress all this files is to use GZip Compression tool and even you can use YUI Compressor and it helps you to reduce the size of your CSS & JS files removing the comments and any extra spacing, or try to use minify your CSS & JS files and by doing so will improve your page load time.
Getting Faster Server
This is more easiest way to approach however, you might need to spend few extra bucks to do. Faster server from well-known web hosting companies will do good enough to you.
Reducing Redirects
Redirects are great because they allow you to handle changes in URLs over time as a result of architectural restructuring, creating clean URLs, etc. If you have one redirection for clean URLs or to handle a change in the URL after moving some pages around, that is completely fine. However, if a URL has to redirect several times, the redirects could probably be reduced.
Use Caching
Well here there are many ways to cache a web page and if you’ve a static page with few updates here and there then consider creating some type of caching system that allows you bypass executing code and instead show a cache of that page.
Write Better Code
A thorough review of the code might increase the server speed. Try to implement speed tests to determine what sections of the code take the longest to execute. Additionally, use this time to reformat and restructure your code to be more efficient. For example, if you are executing the same query multiple times in the page, you might want to consider saving that query object into a variable and using the variable instead of recalling the query.
Just Improve Page Speed on Client-Side
There are many different ways where you can improve page speed on client-side by optimizing the images, relying more on browser caching, by reducing http requests and so on. You can use couple of tools to improve the client-side page speed and it surely help you out.
Google’s Page Speed
It provides an overall score of your page speed optimizations. After PageSpeed analyzes a web page, it breaks the results down into recommendations that you can fix to increase your page speed.
Yahoo’s YSlow
It does the same thing as Google’s Page Speed does and both were slightly separated with different elements and using both the tools will help your page speed improvement.
GTMetrix
It is a free tool that analyzes your page’s speed performance using Google Page Speed and Yahoo’s YSlow. GTMetrix then generates scores for your pages and offers actionable recommendations on how to fix them.
So, that’s all for now from my side and i believe that my blog will help you to understand on exactly what the page speed is and will it matters you the most
